📹 Home cameras

Callie shows your home cameras on the TV, on their own tab or beside the week. A camera gets there one of three ways, depending on what it is.

Cameras in Apple Home

If a camera is already in the Home app, it's the easiest way in. There are no links or passwords.

  1. Make sure the Apple TV is part of your Home. It is if it's your home hub, or if it's signed in to an Apple Account that's a member of the Home.
  2. In my.callie.so → Cameras, turn on Apple Home cameras. You can also do this in the iPhone app, or on the TV under Settings → Cameras.
  3. The TV asks once whether Callie can see your Home. Say yes, and every camera in the Home shows up on the Cameras tab.

This covers any camera that works with Apple Home, including Eufy, Logitech Circle View, Aqara, Netatmo, and some Arlo models. Apple Home cameras play on the TV only.

Cameras with a stream link

Most security cameras, and recorders like UniFi Protect, give out a stream link that starts with rtsp:// or rtsps://. In my.callie.so → Cameras → + Add camera, pick the brand and type the camera's IP address, and Callie fills in the link. You'll find the IP address in your router's device list or the camera's own app. The same brand list is in the iPhone app under Cameras → Stream URL. The iPhone app can also look a camera up by its IP address with Camera IP.

Reolinkrtsp://IP:554/h264Preview_01_main Newer models ship with RTSP off. Turn it on in the Reolink app under the camera's network settings.
Amcrest, Dahua, Lorexrtsp://IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 On a recorder, change channel=1 to the camera's number.
Hikvision, Annkertsp://IP:554/Streaming/Channels/101 On a recorder, camera 2 is 201, camera 3 is 301.
TP-Link Taportsp://IP:554/stream1 Sign in with the camera account from the Tapo app (Advanced settings → Camera account), not your TP-Link login.
Axisrtsp://IP/axis-media/media.amp Use a user from the camera's web page.
UniFi ProtectCopied from Protect Open the camera → Settings → Advanced, turn on an RTSPS stream, and paste its link. No username or password needed.

The TV has to be on the same home network as these cameras to play them.

Ring, Nest, Arlo, Blink, and Wyze

These brands keep their video inside their own apps and don't give out a stream link, so Callie can't connect to them directly. A free bridge app on a computer that stays on at home (a Mac mini, a Raspberry Pi, or a home server) can unlock them:

  • Scrypted adds Ring, Nest, Arlo, Wyze, and others to Apple Home. Then turn on Apple Home cameras in Callie, as above. This is the simplest route if you use Apple Home.
  • go2rtc, or Home Assistant with Frigate, turns supported cameras into stream links you can paste into Callie.

These are separate projects, not made by Callie. Which cameras they support changes over time, so check their docs for yours.

Private by designCamera video goes straight from the camera (or Apple Home) to your TV. It never passes through Callie's servers. Camera passwords you enter are encrypted where Callie stores them.
